"A Lifetime of Painting" by Dorothy Bertine |
Dorothy Bertine, presented a “A Lifetime of Painting” exhibit of her work to the Goddard Center in 2007. She is a native of Southern Oklahoma, and has over her lifetime, developed a body of work and a subsequent reputation in the southwest, as one of the most prolific and gifted adherents and second generation practitioners of the “California Watercolor School”. This school of painting, developed during the first half of the 20th century, sent traditional watercolor in a new direction. The movement became a seminal pillar in the broader American representational art movements of the time and its effect on art was felt across the entire nation. Included in her gift to the Goddard Center are many watercolor studies of historic houses, which offer a rare glimpse into the historical design of architecture. Ms. Bertine, who makes her home in Denton, Texas, was captivated by many of the historical homes of the city, and has captured them magnificently on paper.
