Pop Culture Icons

  • The Goddard Center 401 1st Avenue Southwest Ardmore, OK, 73401 United States (map)

In this exhibit, two distinct voices in contemporary portraiture—Reian Williams and Marie Kash Weltzheimer—come together to explore the resonant power of cultural identity through the faces of pop-culture figures. At the intersection of influence and artistic innovation, this exhibit offers a dynamic dialogue between bold experimentation and masterful tradition.

Reian Williams brings a fearless, emotionally charged energy to his portraits. Known for his vibrant color palettes, intricate textures, and deep social commentary, Williams transforms familiar icons into vessels of larger narratives—touching on justice, mental health, and identity with compelling immediacy. His work invites viewers to reconsider the cultural constructs that shape fame, legacy, and individuality.

In contrast, Marie Kash Weltzheimer’s work sings with quiet reverence and technical precision. Her celebrated series Oklahoma Sounds pays tribute to the musicians who have shaped the state’s cultural landscape, from legendary performers to forgotten talents. Through layered pastel and oil techniques, Weltzheimer captures not only the likeness but also the rhythm and spirit of her subjects— each portrait a love letter to the transformative power of music.

Together, Williams and Weltzheimer present two sides of the same cultural coin: one exploring icons as provocateurs, the other as storytellers. Rooted in the craft of portraiture, their work reveals how popular culture both reflects and redefines our shared humanity.
